Choosing a segment: The segment I chose to select were individuals who own a scooter or have priorly owned one. My idea is on a new scooter helmet, so having been a scooter owner is a big aspect of my research.

Interview #1: Sophomore male with scooter
Q: Do you currently own a scooter helmet?
A: I do not
Q: Do you have any interest in purchasing one?
A: No
Q: Why not?
A: I feel that I do not go fast enough on my scooter to sustain a serious head injury.
Q: Do you think a new scooter helmet design, like that of a motorcycle helmet, could increase scooter helmet sales?
A: Probably, but I have no personal interest in a helmet.

Interview #2: Freshmen female with a scooter
Q: Do you currently own a scooter helmet?
A: Yes
Q: Do you wear it every time you scoot?
A: No, the only reason I own it is because I bought a scooter with my parents in town and
Q: Why don't you wear it?
A: No one else wears one on campus, if I wore it I would feel like I am getting judged.
Q: Do you think a new scooter helmet design, like that of a motorcycle helmet, could increase scooter helmet sales?
A: Yes, if I saw people wearing them I would purchase one and wear it.

Interview #3: Senior female who formerly owned a scooter
Q: Do you currently own a scooter helmet?
A: I do not
Q: Did you own a scooter helmet when you owned a scooter?
A: No
Q: Why not?
A: It was never a thought I had, I never remember seeing anyone on campus with a helmet.
Q: Do you think a new scooter helmet design, like that of a motorcycle helmet, could increase scooter helmet sales?
A: I don't think so. Scooter helmets aren't practical.

What I learned:
What I learned is that my idea has pretty good interest, but some people just don't feel the need to own a scooter helmet. Most people like the idea of changing the design of the helmet to increase sales.

How would I describe this segment:
I think most people who own a scooter normally do not think about buying a helmet. When asked about not wearing a helmet, there is really no reason not to wear one. This particular segment has interest in the retail dale and purchase of the helmet. There is other a segment in the manufacturing of a new product.

  1. Hi Ryan,
I think most people don't wear helmets and that is a big problem. I think the majority of people you asked don't wear a helmet and that's unfortunate. I find it crazy how some people don't find a need in purchasing one for their safety. Overall, I think this is a great post, good job and I look forward to reading more of your posts!
