23A - Unfair Advantage

1. Creativity of the Idea - This is the first idea of its kind
Valuable: The idea is unique, there is currently no products in the market like it
Rare: It does not have to be rare, I have the ability to mass produce the product
Imitable: The idea could be imitated, it needs a patent
Non substitutable: The idea could be substituted by an individual interested in making a product like it.

2. Project Experience - I managed a large Eagle Scout project priorly
Valuable: I have experience managing large projects so I will be prepared
Rare: It is as most people my age do not have this experience
Imitable: It is not imitable, as it is my own unique experiences
Non substitutable: This is non substituitable because I completed the experience myself.

3. Product Management - Place a patent on the idea
Valuable: This is extremely valuable, as no one will be able to steal the idea
Rare: Patents aren't rare, but it would be a step to ensure the safety of the idea.
Imitable:Cannot be imitated once the patent is placed
Non substitutable: Also cannot be substituted

4. Social Capital - Proper Adverting Around the Gainesville area
Valuable: The placement of my ads could be huge, target an audience that rides scooters near campus
Rare: Yes, it would be rare because scooter helmets do not get advertised from what I've seen
Imitable: It is imitable, as competitors will likely try to advertise as well if the idea is successful
Non substitutable: It could be substituted through other types of advertising

5. Social Capital - Create Deals and Purchase Packages with Scooters 
Valuable: People will be more inclined to buy the product if it comes at a discounted rate or for free with the purchase of a scooter
Rare:Most likely, I do not think the owners of NS4L have any deals like this currently
Imitable: Yes , other scooter helmet companies would surely use this idea.
Non substitutable: Yes, the idea could be used on other products as well. 

6. Public Speaking Experience - Taken a class for public speaking at UF and feel it is one of my strengths 
Valuable: The ability to sell the client my product through words and persuasion 
Rare: Yes. most individuals have a fear of public speaking
Imitable: Yes. if companies see my public speaking platform is working they will try to imitate it
Non substitutable: It can be substituted through other forms of media 

7. Social Capital - Getting Sponsored on Social Media 
Valuable: Perspective clients will see the product on all forms of social media and become interested in the product
Rare:Yes, it costs money to sponsor a product so companies will not do it often
Imitable:Yes. others will pay to do so if they see it increases my sales
Non substitutable:It could be substituted through other forms of advertising 

8. Social Capital- Ability to Relate to Clients 
Valuable: Most entrepreneurs in the area are adults and not peers, I am peers with my customers and can relate to their needs
Rare:Yes. Other sellers will not be able to relate to the customers
Imitable: No
Non substitutable: It could be through other forms of communication and surveys to see buyer tendencies. 

9.  Social Capital - Heavener School of Business 
Valuable: Connections from the school, people may want to work with my idea and give me advice on how to make the idea successful 
Rare: Yes, most entrepreneurs do not have connections in such a great program 
Imitable: No
Non substitutable: Maybe through other large business networks or universities

10. Social Capital - Medical Students 
Valuable: i am friends with students who could conduct surveys showing my helmet is safer than alternative products
Rare:Yes, consumers will be more inclined to buy if evidence shows it is the safest on the market.
Imitable: Yes, other producers will surely perform surveys of their own.
Non substitutable: No  


After doing my VRIN analysis, I think that my first resource is the one that fits the best in all areas. I think that this is the best because of its uniqueness, the idea is mine and the first of its kind.

I think if a competitor were to arise, they would not be able to successfully create a product like mine without it violating patent principles. Having a great idea is the start to becoming a great entrepreneur.

  1. Hey Ryan, those are some great resources you included in your ventures and it is good to have those type of resources. The resource you picked out of all ten seems like a good pick because it is good to be unique in all areas of business and it also seems like a good fit for you in these criteria. Good job.

    All of your skills and talents are very unique. I personally think the public speaking one is great and can take you far with your unique idea. I enjoyed reading your 10 skills and how you can relate them to your venture. Overall I think you have significant skills that you can take with you in the long run when you become a successful entrepreneur.
